Harrington man arrested for attempted burglary, theft

HARRINGTON, Del. – A Harrington man is behind bars on numerous charges following an attempted burglary that took place over the weekend.

On Saturday, Delaware State Police responded to Yellow Wood Drive for a reported attempted burglary to a detached shed and theft of a security camera from outside a residence. Further investigation led troopers to identify the suspect as 47-year-old Michael Jopp, who police say also lives in the same development.

Jopp was taken into custody on Tuesday, and a search of his residence was conducted. The stolen property, as well as an AK-47 style rifle, was recovered.

Jopp was charged with possession of a firearm by a person prohibited, attempted third degree burglary, and theft under $1,500. He was held at SCI on a $10,000 secured bond for the weapon charge and a $2,500 unsecured bond for the attempted burglary and theft charges.
