Delaware’s minimum wage could go up to $15 an hour by 2025, not all think it’s a good idea right now

DELAWARE- In Delaware,  lawmakers are aiming to gradually increase the state’s minimum wage.

Legislation was introduced Tuesday that would slowly raise the state’s minimum wage from $9.25 to $15 an hour by the year 2025.

The first raise would be a $1.25 next year.

However, not all lawmakers are in favor, GOP Senator Brian Pettyjohn tells 47 ABC the timing of this legislation isn’t good because businesses are still hurting.

“You know businesses need time to recover from this devastating blow that they’ve had because of COVID-19 and the forced shutdowns and limited capacity a lot of these businesses are facing right now,” Senator Brian Pettyjohn, said.

In a press release, the Bills sponsor Senator Jack Walsh said this gradual increase would lift hundreds of families out of poverty, bolster Delaware’s economy, and keep local businesses competitive with surrounding states.
