CSD rolls past WiHi to start the season 1-0
CAMBRIDGE, Md.- Behid two touchdowns and an interception from Dario Belizaire, the Cambridge Vikings defeated WiHi 27-6 to start the season 1-0. The loss drops the Tribe to 0-1.
It was the first official Bayside sports action in 363 days, the CSD Vikings coming off of 2019’s MPSSAA state semifinal appearance against Dunbar. The Tribe in their second season under Head Coach Isaiah Taylor, finishing 4-5 in his first season.
WiHi received the opening kickoff and looked a little rusty, starting out the game 3 and out. On the punt, the Tribe pulling out some trickery. A punter sneak sniffed out perfectly by the Vikings defense turned the ball over inside the WiHi thirty setting up the games opening points. Dario Belizaire punched the ball in from three yards out to give CSD the 7-0 lead.
A few possessions later, WiHi started to pick things up. With five minutes left in the half, BJ Cook pounded the ball in from one yard out, extra point no good so its a 7-6 Cambridge lead that carried into the half. In the second half, the Vikings really came alive. Belizaire took one more trip into the end zone for the half’s only points, Vikes took the 13-6 lead into the fourth quarter. In the final quarter, Cambridge put the game out of reach. A 63 yard CSD fumble return to the end zone by Tim Johnson and a short Jordan Manokey score shut the door on any WiHi comeback attempt as Cambridge starts the season off 1-0 with the 27-6 victory over WiHi.
The Vikings return to the field next Friday when they travel to Federaslburg to take on Colonel Richardson at 6. The Indians will look for their first win of the season also next Friday when they take on Parkside at 6.
