Amazon bringing hundreds of jobs to Delmarva this year
SEAFORD, Del.- Some exciting news for the City of Seaford, as a warehouse facility will be home to a new Amazon delivery station beginning in May of 2021.
“For us, we see it as hope for the community, hope for a brighter future,” Trisha Newcomer, Dir. of Economic Development and Community Relations, said.
“We are excited they chose Seaford and we are excited for the people and not only of Seaford but western Sussex and the Delmarva Peninsula,” Mayor David Genshaw, of Seaford, said.
We are told the new station is expected to bring hundreds of full and part-time jobs to the Delmarva Peninsula.
“It’s interesting that Amazon has chosen a warehouse that used to house the product for Dupont, which was so important to our community and the surrounding areas here again, that same site that same area is going to be another spot for great jobs,” Mayor Genshaw said.
While the pandemic has caused many to lose jobs, Seaford’s Director of Economic Development and Community Relations, said hopefully this will be the step in the right direction to get people back on their feet.
“To get back to a point where our communities here are thriving and the residents here are thriving and people are doing well and successful,” Newcomer said.
And not only are town leaders excited about the new jobs, but they hope that this will bring more people to the area.
“People who are looking to relocate or start their business they can start to look at Seaford as hey this is really a place that we can consider and come check it out,” Mayor Genshaw said.
