Vaccines among minorities in DE

DELAWARE – Over 103,000 people have been vaccinated. However according to the state’s vaccine tracker, only 4% of those vaccinated are black, and just 2% are Hispanic or Latino.

According to officials, the disparity has not gone unnoticed. Governor John Carney says the state is stepping up to make sure minorities are receiving the resources to be vaccinated. These efforts include, reaching out to seniors who don’t have access to technology or who may have mobility challenges.

“We’ve had some vaccine hesitancy among these communities for historical reasons so you know we need to get over that,” says Governor John Carney.
“We’re going to do a lot of community outreach to take those vaccinations. Much like we did with testing and I think we’ll learn more affective ways to do it.”

Health officials say, if you are 65 or older, you can sign up for the state of Delaware’s vaccination waiting list at vaccinerequest.delaware.gov, or call Delaware Department of Public Health vaccination center at 1-888-643-1715.
