UK variant of coronavirus in Delaware
Delaware – A new strain of the coronavirus has now made its way to the first state.
The variant, originally found in England in December of 2020, was confirmed in three Delawareans today. That’s according to the Delaware Division Of Public Health.
DPH tells 47 ABC the three infected are all part of the same home in new castle county and are two adults, ranging in ages from 35-64-years-old and a child under the age of 10.
Dr. Karyl Rattay says there “is” some concern because this variant does spread quicker than covid-19, but the most important thing Delawareans can do is to follow safety guidelines.
“The fact that it is more contagious really means that we all have to ensure that we are doing everything we can to prevent the spread of infections,” says Rattay. “So we have been talking for a long time about wearing masks, making sure we cover our mouth and our nose.”
Dr. Rattay says the UK variant highly resembles the symptoms of covid-19 and as the science shows right now the vaccines available do fight against this strain.
To keep yourself safe, DPH says you should practice healthy protocols like washing your hands, wearing a mask, and practicing social distancing.
