Traffic stop leads to discovery of loaded handgun in Salisbury
SALISBURY, Md. – Police say a traffic stop led to the discovery of a handgun late Friday night.
Just before 11:30 p.m., Salisbury Police officers conducted a traffic stop in the area of N. Salisbury Boulevard and Dagsboro Road. Officers made contact with the driver, 20-year-old Wysaan Kellam, and passenger, 19-year-old Corey Smith Jr.
During the investigation, officers located a loaded semi-automatic Glock handgun inside the vehicle. It was then learned that both Kellam and Smith were prohibited from possessing regulated firearms due to them not being at least 21 years of age. The pair were subsequently arrested and charged with handgun in vehicle, loaded handgun in vehicle, and possession of a firearm by a minor.
Police say at the time of the traffic stop, the handgun was found not to be stolen. Officers are continuing to investigate how the pair came to be in possession of the handgun.
