Seaford boys basketball secures first Henlopen South title since ’91
GEORGETOWN, Del.- For the fist time since 1991, the Seaford Blue Jays are the Henlopen South champions. Tyrese Fortune led Seaford with 14 points as the Blue Jays took down Sussex Academy 69-35 to improve to 10-1 on the season. The loss drops the Seahawks to 1-11.
It’s been 30 years since the Seaford Blue Jays advanced to the Henlopen conference title game. Coming into todays matchup with Sussex Academy, they were just one win away form securing their spot in this years title game.
Seaford came out firing, opening the game on a 14-1 run to take a 19-8 lead after a quarter and then a 33-19 lead a the half. Seaford kept their foot on the gas in the second half outscoring the Seahawks 36-16 to coast to the 69-35 win over Sussex Academy.
Seaford returns to action Thursday when they travel to Dagsboro to take on Indian River at 6:30. The Seahawks will look for their second win of the season when they finish up their season hosting Delmar Thursday at 7 pm.
