Police: Westover man arrested on attempted murder charges following altercation
SOMERSET CO., Md. – A Westover man is behind bars on numerous charges including attempted murder following an incident that took place last week.
According to police, at around 1:30 p.m. on February 17th, deputies were called to a business on Hudson Corner Road in Marion to meet with the reported victim of an assault. The victim reported that a violent incident had taken place earlier that day, at around 11:15 a.m. He told police that he was initially a pedestrian and the suspect, Scott Muir, arrived at the scene driving a black Honda passenger vehicle.
Muir was reportedly upset over prior communications between the victim and Muir’s girlfriend and accelerated his vehicle, hitting the victim with the front of his vehicle before leaving the area. The victim then got into his vehicle and left to go home. A short time later, the victim was traveling southbound on Hayward Road when he saw Muir approaching him northbound. Muir then allegedly made a U-turn in front of the victim and pointed a handgun at the victim through his driver’s window before firing several shots at the victim. One shot reportedly hit the victim’s vehicle.
After further investigation and witness interviews, a loaded semi-automatic handgun, magazines, and ammunition was recovered from the residence of a relative of Muir. Deputies located Muir a short time later at the Day’s Inn on North Salisbury Boulevard and subsequently placed him under arrest.
Muir has been charged with two counts of attempted second degree murder, two counts each of first and second degree assault, handgun in vehicle, transportation of handgun in vehicle, illegal possession of a handgun by a prohibited person, illegal possession of ammunition by a prohibited person, and loaded handgun on person. He was held without bond.
