GEORGETOWN, Del. – The town if Georgetown launched the county’s first online fiscal transparency center. Basically, its a profile that translates complex government financial data into easy-to-understand information.

Residents will be able to look at and understand an interactive break-down of the city’s finances, as well as insights into demographics and much more. Town officials say, transparency is the cornerstone of good government and strong sustainable communities.

With this online profile, residents can stay involve and understand where their tax dollars are going. “As we’ve gone through the year with COVID, the opportunities to present information in ways that are not traditional are becoming more important and I think it leads to an overall more informed population which is important,” says town manager, Gene Dvornick.

Georgetown’s town manager also tells 47 ABC, this program is even made user friendly for those with disabilities such as visual impairments, and those who rely on assistive technology. The city is the first in Sussex county to implement this transparency program and hopes that other towns will follow.
