MDOT icy road recommendations
MARYLAND – As Marylanders prepare for another winter storm, the department of transportation says road safety should be a number one priority. MDOT says the winter storm will bring some weather conditions that Marylanders should be mindful of, such as icy roads.
47 ABC meteorologists are calling for a freezing rainy start to this winter storm, and MDOT is also telling people to be mindful of road conditions. Sherry Christian, a spokesperson for MDOT says, they started out this year with 387,000 tons of rock salt, so they’re currently looking good with their supply.
They ask Marylanders to stay off the roads if possible in inclement weather. However, if you do happen to be on the road, it’s important to slow down and give plows the opportunity to clear the way.
“Keep in mind that the clear road is behind the plow, so give them the distance, give them the time that they need to clear those roads so they can keep them safe for everybody out there,” says Christian.
MDOT also tells 47 ABC, if you want to keep up with road conditions and find out what roads have already been plowed, just visit roads.maryland.gov.
