“I am very humbled and very honored: ” Worcester CO. Superintendent Taylor reappointed for another term, preparing for future challenges

WORCESTER COUNTY- The Superintendent of Worcester County Schools received some positive news recently with the board of education reappointing him for another four-year term.

“I am very humbled and very honored that the board of education voted unanimously to offer me another 4 years of working in Worcester County,” Superintendent Lou Taylor said.

“Well, I’m actually really happy that he’s been reappointed, he was the principle when I went to Stephen Decatur high school and he was always super involved with all the activities,” Lori Timmons, Showell Elementary School parent, said.

Superintendent Taylor said in this new term he knows he will be faced with challenges due to the impacts of the pandemic.

“We’ve got a lot of work to do, I’ve told the board it seems like we were on a roll, I still feel good about where we are but we’ve taken some steps backwards and it’s not been anybody’s fault,” Taylor said.

Taylor said one obstacle he will tackle is assessing where they are at as a school district as things start to get back to normal.

“Really take a look at student performance and student learning first and foremost, and also I’m concerned about our employees what they have had to endure in the past eleven months,” Taylor said.

But that’s not all, Superintendent Taylor wants to focus on mental health.

“Our kids have had some tough roads, our employees have had some tough roads and we’ve got to see how we can help them,” Taylor said.

This is something that a Worcester County parent says she agrees with.

“I think that’s amazing, mental health a lot of children are suffering right now because of everything that’s going on,” Timmons said.

And although there are challenges that the future will bring for Superintendent Taylor, he said if the community continues to support each other things will hopefully move forward.

“If we can keep that same mentality of all working together, all believing in the process of education young people and putting our kids first, I think there’s great things ahead for Worcester County public schools,” Taylor said.

We reached out to other Worcester County School parents to get their opinion, but have not heard anything back.

Superintendent Taylor said it’s nice to see kids back in the classrooms again.

He said in these difficult times seeing his students helps to keep his spirits up knowing they are happy to be back.
