Efforts to protect DE farmlands

DELAWARE- The USDA’s natural resources conservation service in Delaware is accepting applications from landowners and groups who are interested in restoring and protecting wetlands and working farms.

The Agricultural Conservations Easement Program would compensate landowners which provides resources for Delaware producers to protect their lands from development.

Specifically the land easement component of the plan, would protect the long term viability of the nations food supply. Although many farmers and conservationist could use the funding, one Delaware farmer, Jay Baxter of Baxter farms, seems skeptical saying, “I don’t trust anything coming from the federal government with money attached, disguised as “conservation” yet. I think I can speak for most of my peers in saying, the federal government has a lot to do to regain our trust.”

However, other farmers who are interested and want to learn more about the funding and program can visit here.
