DSP starts new community initiative in Kent County, creating more partnerships and collaborations

KENT COUNTY, Del.- The Delaware State Police recently started a new community initiative despite obstacles faced by the pandemic.

Delaware State Police Community Outreach Unit launched the first Kent County Civilian Advisory Board.

We’re told the board is a continued commitment to providing ongoing communication within the community.

The board will focus on identifying policing needs within the community, providing input on DSP educational programs, strengthening public safety, and providing guidance on non-enforcement strategies.

“We decided to have this because it was time to have a conversation, just opportunity for us and community outreach officers and as officers in the community how can we go about doing our jobs better, as far as community outreach and community engagement,” Corporal Alfonso Jones III, Master Corporal with DSP, said.

We’re told the board members are comprised of volunteers of various backgrounds.

Including educators, youth advocates, and community outreach specialists.

DSP added that in the future there is potential to have a board in each one of the counties.
