Afternoon fire damages Cambridge home, injures five

CAMBRIDGE, Md. — Maryland Fire officials say a fire destroyed a Cambridge home Tuesday afternoon.

We’re told the blaze was reported just after noon at a home located at 507 Academy Street. The two-alarm fire took 40 firefighters about an hour to control.

Maryland Fire Marshals were called to the scene to investigate the cause and origin of the blaze, which was determined accidental, resulting from a a failure within an electric space heater.

According to fire officials, 5 occupants in the home were taken to Univ. of MD Shore Medical Center at Dorchester, where they were treated and released for minor injuries

Total damage has been estimated at $80,000.

We’re told the residents are being assisted by the American Red Cross.
