Somerset Co. Public Schools announce plan to reopen Feb. 8th

Corona 2

WESTOVER, Md. – Somerset County Public Schools officials have announced their plan to reopen schools on Monday, February 8th, for students who have opted for in-person learning.

The county’s 13-week closure began on November 9th due to the county’s COVID-19 health metrics exceeding the safety benchmarks previously set by state health officials. Data collected from school districts that have opened for in-person learning show that the risk of COVID-19 transmission in a school setting is very low when safety protocols are followed, and that community health metrics should no longer be used as an indicator of the safety of in-person learning.

The district says it will conduct additional, mandatory safety training for all staff before reopening for students, as well as maintain a virtual learning option for families who prefer to have their students remain at home through the end of the school year.
