Smyrna coasts past Cape for their first 4-0 start since ’17

SMYRNA, Del.- Behind 17 points from Rob Wiley and 16 from Olumuyiwa Salako, the Smyrna Eagles defeated Cape 67-44 to move to 4-0 on the year. The loss drops the Vikings to 1-3 for the first time since 2014.

The Eagles come into this one as possibly the hottest teams in the state averaging 66 points per game and only 37 points given up a game (second in Delaware). They came out on fire, taking a quick 14-0 lead in the first. Cape was finally able to get on the board to make it a 17-6 game after the first quarter. Smyrna kept up the high power in the second quarter putting up 20 points taking the 37-16 lead at half.

Rob Wiley (12) led all scorers at the half for Smyrna. Ja’Vaughn Burton led the Vikings with 8 points.

In the second half, the Eagles kept their foot on the gas, leading by as many as 30 and held on to win 67-44. Smyrna will look to keep up their win streak to start the season when they travel to Camden to take on undefeated Caesar Rodney. Cape returns to action next Tuesday when they take on Sussex Central. Both games begin at 4:30.
