Laurel wrestling powers through IR, starts the season 1-0
LAUREL, Del.- Behind five team pins in the match, Laurel Bulldogs wrestling defeated Indian River 48-30 to start the season 1-0. With the loss River falls to 0-1 to begin the year.
After two IR forfeits in the 106 and 113 divisions, the Bulldogs began with a 12-0 advantage. In the first played match, IR’s Ian Shaubach got the pin to cut the lead to 12-6. Laurel would go on a run of victories from Cody Drummond (126), Xavier Limehouse (132) and Kyler Weaver (138) to make it a 24-6 lead. But after a few Bulldog forfeits and a River Vickers pin in the 160 pound division, it was a 24 point tie.
From there though, it was all Bulldogs. Four pins from James Johnson (170), Travis Rife (182), Breylin Williams (195) and Jacob Davis (220) gave Laurel the 48-24 lead headed into the final match. The Bulldogs forfeited the 285 match but took the match 48-30.
The Bulldogs will look to continue their hot start when they travel to Seaford to take on the Blue Jays this Saturday at 11 am. Indian River returns to the mats looking for win number one when they host Charter also on Saturday at 11 am.
