Dover man arrested after stealing vehicle, other items from vehicles

1280 Robert Scott

DOVER, Del. – Dover Police say a series of thefts and a theft of a vehicle led to the arrest of one Thursday morning.

We’re told the investigation began when officers responded to Matthew Court in the Heatherfield East development for a report of a stolen vehicle. The victim reported that her 2018 Gray Dodge Journey was stolen from her driveway. While on scene, three additional victims approached officers to report that their vehicles had been rummaged through, with some items such as GPS, loose change, and other valuables being stolen.

Just after 9:30 a.m.  Thursday, an officer on patrol in the area of South Queen Street observed a gray Dodge Journey drive past. After following the Dodge, the officer was able to confirm that it was the stolen vehicle from the previous day.

When the driver, identified as 35-year-old Robert Scott, parked the vehicle in the 100 block of South New Street, officers took him into custody without incident. He was subsequently charged with theft of a motor vehicle, two counts of theft under $1500, and five counts of third degree criminal trespass. Scott was later released on his own recognizance.
