Del. inmate dies from COVID-related complications

DOVER, Del. – The Delaware Department of Correction announced on Wednesday that a 40-year-old inmate with chronic health conditions from Sussex Correctional Institution died Tuesday night.

We’re told the inmate died of complications from chronic illnesses, including asthma, diabetes, chronic pain syndrome, and COVID-19. The inmate received a rapid COVID-19 test at SCI on January 10th after he began to display symptoms of illness. He tested positive and was moved to the SCI COVID-19 Treatment Center, but was admitted to Beebe Hospital on January 13th after symptoms progressed.

He suddenly deteriorated on Tuesday and was placed on a ventilator. Hospital staff declared him dead just after 11 p.m.
