UPDATE: Suspicious package found near roadway; Delaware State Police & Delaware State Fire Marshal’s Office investigate

BRIDGEVILLE, Del. – Wednesday morning,  Delaware State Police responded to Coverdale Road south of Mill Park Drive for a report of a suspicious package.

Authorities say just after 10 a.m., a community member picking up trash along the roadside found a pipe contraption that he suspected was a pipe bomb. We’re told the Delaware State Police Explosive Ordinance Disposal Unit and Delaware State Fire Marshal’s Office responded to the scene to assist with the investigation.

According to authorities, the device was unable to be positively identified as a bomb and was successfully destroyed.

We’re told no one was injured during the incident.

The investigation has been turned over to the Delaware State Fire Marshal’s Office.

The roadway was closed for approximately 5 hours during the investigation.
