Youth lacrosse tournament could be coming to Ocean City in 2021

OCEAN CITY, Md. – A proposed lacrosse tournament in Ocean City could bring in upwards of $5 million to the resort town.

Annapolis based Legendary Sports Group LLC is hoping to start a new three-day youth and high school lacrosse tournament, called OC Lacrosse Fest, in 2021. The event would lead into the existing OC Lacrosse Classic currently scheduled for August 9th through the 12th.

The classic has been serving both women and men, while the lacrosse fest would bring in the youth.

Lacrosse Hall of Famer Dave Cottle tells us games would be played across Ocean City, and possibly in Berlin. He hopes to make it a week-long destination vacation for lacrosse families.

Legendary Sports is asking Ocean City for an annual financial contribution for the next three years, adding up to $120,000. However, Cottle estimates the economic impact of the event would be over $5 million.

The Ocean City Council is expected to consider the proposal at this Tuesday’s meeting.
