Sussex County still looking to ‘Pack the Pod’

SUSSEX Co., Del. – This time of year, Sussex County would typically be hosting its Caroling on the Circle event in Georgetown. Sadly, the event was suspended this year due to COVID-19, but county leaders want you to know they’re still collecting donations as part of their Pack the Pod food drive.

The county will be collecting non-perishable food donations through December 31st.

To make things more convenient for the public this year, there are two different ways people can donate.

First, food donations can be made anytime, 24 hours a day, outside the County Administrative Offices building in downtown Georgetown. Receptacles, including a 14-foot-by-7-foot storage unit, will be placed outside the County complex, allowing the public to make no contact drop offs.

Next, people can make monetary contributions. Any money donated will be used to buy food items. Checks should be made payable to ‘Sussex County Council’ and mailed to Sussex County Government, c/o County Administration, PO Box 589, Georgetown, DE 19947. Donors should note ‘Caroling on The Circle/Pack the Pod food drive’ in the memo line.

While county leaders say they’re not expecting to collect as many donations as they did last year, they say anything you can do to show support will make a world of difference.

Chip Guy, Sussex County Director of Communications said, “I’d be thrilled if we got half of a good year or a normal year this year, but that really depends on what kind of support we get from the community and what support people are able to give.”

In 2019, the food drive collected more than 28,000 items for various organizations.
