“She deserves this and so much more:” Pocomoke family gives woman 90th drive by birthday surprise
POCOMOKE, Md.- One Pocomoke woman got a 90th birthday surprise Wednesday that was a little different than what she’s used to, a drive by parade.
“In today’s times things look dark sometimes, you forget just how much you mean to people and that’s what my goal is for today is for her to see just how much she is truly loved,” Travis Ayers, Lillie’s grandson, said.
Lillie Mae Ayres typically spends her birthdays at Hartley Hall, a nursing home where she works, celebrating with friends and family, but her family had to make some changes on how they celebrated Lillie this year.
“Because of the COVID pandemic obviously we cant all get together like we’d like to,” Travis said.
We are told by Travis and daughter, Pam Ayers, that it was only right to give Lillie this drive by parade because they know how much people in Pocomoke appreciate her, as she has done a lot since starting her life here in 1948.
“We know that everybody in Pocomoke loves her to death,” Pam said.
“She loves the nursing home and the folks in the nursing home, she would do anything for them, she would give the shirt off her back for everybody,” Travis said.
And they add while Lillie is not a fan of surprises they sure do know she is appreciative of what the community put together for her on this special day.
“I almost cried, I’m pretty sure she almost did too, but yea it was really nice, really nice, and 90 is a special time,” Pam said.
