Mountaire hosts annual Christmas for Thousands event

SELBYVILLE, Del. – Volunteers at Mountaire Farms packed up thousands of meals on Monday for Delmarva families as part of their annual Christmas for Thousands event.

The packing event typically draws one hundred to two hundred volunteers but Mountaire scaled that back to 50 volunteers this year with all the necessary COVID precautions in place. Organizers say they usually pack about 2,500 meals but bumped that up to 3,000 meals because of the need this year.

“We’re excited. Everyone is pumped up. It’s Christmas week so everyone is already feeling the Christmas spirit but especially giving back to the community, an event like this bring everyone together,” says Cathy Bassett with Mountaire Farms.

The Meal boxes include Mountaire Farms roasted chicken, corn, yams, green beans, stuffing, gravy, cranberries and brownie mix for dessert. Once the boxes were packed, about 60 different local organizations including churches and non-profits picked them up. Those boxes will be distributed anywhere from Dover, Delaware to Accomack County, Virginia.

Mountaire’s next food packing event will be held on Easter.
