Local businesses raise concerns over Carney’s new coronavirus restrictions

REHOBOTH BEACH, Del. – In Delaware, some restaurants and bars are raising concerns after Governor John Carney announced new coronavirus-related restrictions.

Among other things, the restrictions limit bars to table service.

The owner of Cooter Brown’s Twisted Kitchen and Bourbon Bar in Rehoboth Beach tells 47ABC all these changes have been hard on his employees. He says although he understands the need for safety protocols he says he feels the restrictions put on bars and restaurants aren’t comparable to what’s been put on other places of business.

“It’s pretty damaging to the restaurants,” said Dale Slotter, owner of Cooter Brown’s Twisted Kitchen and Bourbon Bar.

“When you can see the Christiana Food Court loaded with people or a Walmart packed with people and yet at our bar we have two people, eight feet, two people, eight feet it’s tough,” said Slotter.

Cooter Brown’s Twisted Kitchen and Bourbon Bar says they’ve been down 30 to 40 percent in sales this year because of the coronavirus.
