Dover field hockey advances in DIAA playoffs, draws Cape in round two
DOVER, Del.- Behind a hat trick form junior Superia Clark, the Dover Senators defeated the Appoquinimink Jaguars 6-2 in the first round of the DIAA Division 1 playoffs. With the win, the Senators advance to the semifinals where they will take on Cape. Dover hosted Cape on November 23rd and fell to the Vikings 5-0.
Dover opened up the scoring early with a Ellisyn Arthur goal with 6:06 left in the first quarter, Superia Clark on the assist. In the second quarter, the Senators extended their lead to 3-0 at the half with two quick goals, twenty seconds apart, by Chelsea Johnson and Superia Clark.
Early in the second quarter, Appo would get some offense going. A pass inside off the corner to Alani Lawrence and Lawrene got it past the keeper for the score to cut the lead to two. Just four minutes later, all of the Jag’s momentum was stopped when Clark stepped in front of an Appo pass and took it all the way into Senator territory and then finished it off on an assist from Alayna Gigliotti for her second score of the game. Appo would get another score on the board but so would Clark and Johnson in the fourth quarter to put it out of reach as Dover advanced to the semifinals agains Cape with the 6-2 win.
