Wicomico County holds 12th Annual Turkey Trek with safety precautions for COVID-19
SALISBURY, Md. – Hundreds of people were outside in Salisbury today for the 12th Annual Turkey Trek and it was all for a good cause.
The event took place at the Pemberton Historical Park.
Event organizers say all proceeds will go toward Pemberton Nature Camp and other environmental education programs.
In order to pull off the event, several changes were made to keep people safe the most notable being no spectators. Organizers also tell 47ABC this year there were two race start times for social distancing.
“That’s the posture we’ve taken since this started back in the spring is obviously we want the first priority is to keep people safe, but if we can do something safely and offer those opportunities. Our posture has been to try to do those things,” said Wicomico County Recreation, Parks, and Tourism Director Steve Miller.
Event organizers say people also got the chance to donate canned food for the homeless at the event.
