Wicomico Co. Council District 2 seat still not called

WICOMICO CO., Md. – A highly contested race for the Wicomico County Council District 2 seat is still up in the air.

As of Wednesday, incumbent Republican Nicole Acle had about 56 percent of the vote while Democrat Alex Scott had 44 percent. However, the county still has about 55-hundred ballots to count starting Thursday along with as many as 27-hundred that may still get to them through the mail by the deadline of Friday, November 13. Wicomico election officials say there’s really no way of telling if the results will drastically change from the current unofficial numbers.

“We don’t know how many are in council district two of those 55-hundred. It’s not part of our normal process to separate that out for a particular contest,” says Anthony Gutierrez, the director of the Wicomico County Board of Elections.

Around 1 AM on Wednesday, Nicole Acle posted a video on her campaign Facebook page celebrating a victory and thanking voters. Meanwhile, Alex Scott also posted on Facebook around 10 AM saying he’s optimistic the gap will close once all the mail-in ballots are counted.
