Milford wins their first ‘Battle of the Bell’ since ’17
FELTON, Del.- Behind a big game on the ground from Aaron Sivels and Marquis Gillis, the Milford Buccaneers defeated Lake Forest 29-12 to take the Battle of the Bell. With the win, the Bucs move to 2-2 with the win and the loss drops Lake to 1-4. The Buc’s bring the bell home for the first since 2017.
After the Spartans turned the ball over on downs on their first drive, the Bucs quickly took the ball down the field on an 88 yard drive capped off by a 27 yard, Aaron Sivels touchdown run to open up the scoring. Sivels led the way for Milford all game with three trips to the end zone, all on the ground. Senior Marquis Gillis added a score on the ground late in the fourth quarter.
For Lake, it was tough sledding on offense. The triple option stalled for the Spartans for most of the game but senior Kendall Smith was able to find success, including a short two yard TD to make it 7-6 early in the second quarter. After starting quarterback Damian Galindez went down with an injury early on the failed two point conversion attempt, freshman QB Jonathan Tyndall came in and caught fire. Tyndall moved the ball down the field to set up a late first half touchdown but was unable to complete the pass as time expired. In the second half, the freshman dropped a dime to Jalen Morris to make it a 22-12 game late in the third quarter. The Bucs would run away with this one after Gillis broke a long TD run late in the fourth to seal it.
