Local Boy Scout troop plants trees, shrubs on Assateague Island
BERLIN, Md. – A Boy Scout troop helped enhance the landscape at Assateague Island National Seashore over the weekend.
For a service project, Boy Scout troop 225 from Berlin planted 12 native trees and approximately two dozen native shrubs surrounding the Seashore’s visitor center, parking area, and environmental education complex. We’re told the National Park Service has been working during the past few years to convert some of those areas to more natural, lower maintenance plantings.
That small addition to the park will provide significant benefits to birds, pollinators, and other wildlife.
