Lewes man dies in crash, police investigating
MILTON, Del. — Delaware State Police are investigating a crash a fatal a fatal crash that took the life of a Lewes man on Wednesday afternoon.
Police say just after 2:45 p.m., a 2018 Nissan Sentra, driven by a 76-year-old man, was traveling northbound on Cedar Creek Road north of Reynolds Pond Road. A 2017 Ford Escape was traveling southbound on the same road, when the driver of the Nissan failed to turn on the curve in the roadway and began to rotate counter clockwise before crossing over the double yellow centerline and into the southbound lane.
We’re told the center portion of the Ford struck the right, center portion of the Nissan, sending the small car off of the road, causing it to strike a tree. Police say the car rebounded off a the tree before coming to a rest near the roadway. The Ford came to an uncontrolled stop in the southbound travel lane according to investigators.
Troopers say the driver of the Nissan was pronounced dead at the scene. His identification is pending notification to next of kin. The driver and passenger in the Ford, a 54-year-old woman of Lewes and a male passenger of Lewes, were transported to a local hospital with non-life threatening injuries.
Officials say the roadway was closed for approximately 2.5 hours while the investigation was completed and the roadway was cleared.
