Free Thanksgiving meal giveaway in Cambridge

CAMBRIDGE, Md. – Two men are getting ready to host a thanksgiving meal giveaway Saturday, November 21 in Cambridge. They say with the recent violence in the city coupled with the pandemic, many families are struggling. The men hosting this event shared their their motivation behind giving back.

Pine street will be closed off for this thanksgiving meal giveaway. It’s all made possible thanks to the owners of Groove City mini mart, who say they want to do something positive for their community.

“I don’t want these kids to have the same thanksgiving I had. God done blessed me and put me in this position, so I’m going to make sure I take care of my people while I’m in this position,” says co-owner of Groove City mini mart, Isaac Adams.

Between the recent violence in Cambridge and the pandemic, the owners say they’ve been working to find a way to provide for the community and bring them together during these hard times.

“We decided to put something together to give back to the community and make sure everybody is happy on thanksgiving, even before thanksgiving, we’re doing it before so, just to make sure everybody is comfortable with them self, and have something to eat, everybody’s belly is going to get full,” says co-owner of Groove City mini mart, Buddy Ennals.

They decided to host a thanksgiving meal giveaway which they will be handing out 50 turkeys, and over 100 hot meals. Adams says, “we’re just here to make a difference man, and it’s just crazy the amount of love and support we get is just crazy, I can’t believe it. It’s just crazy.”

Adams and Ennals say, during their first year in business,¬†they’ve gained enough support to pull off a thanksgiving miracle.

“We came together years ago as two young black men with a dream, just trying to be something, make our parents proud,” says Ennals.

Adams also says, “we’re just pushing forward with our city and trying to show the whole eastern shore that we’re better than what you see.”

Isaac and Buddy say they hope to continue this tradition every year, and serve as role models for the younger generation in the community.

The Thanksgiving Giveaway will take place this Saturday, November 21, starting with free turkeys from 11am to 1pm, and free hot meals from 1pm to 4pm.

The co-owners also say they are organizing a toy drive to benefit local families in need. If you’re interested in donating, you can bring new unwrapped toys by December 19th to 601 Pine Street in Cambridge.
