Wicomico organizations put on drive-thru Halloween event for families Saturday

SALISBURY, Md.- Organizations in Salisbury teamed up to give 500 kids a new way of getting candy on Halloween because of COVID-19.

The event was called “Cruisin for Candy.”

Families with children ages 12 and under were able to participate in a contactless drive-thru trick-or-treat event from 2 to 4 P-M at the Wicomico Youth and Civic Center.

“Cruisin for Candy” was put on by the Wicomico County Recreation, Parks, and Tourism, the Salisbury Jaycees and Froggy 99.9.

Kids were encouraged to dress up.

They received pre-packaged treat bags full of candy and other goodies.

We are told this event hopefully gave a sense of normalcy to the kids, during a time other Halloween events are being canceled.

“It’s been a tough go the last several months for many people and with Recreation and Parks and Wicomico County and the reason we exist is to make good things happen for people in the community, and that’s exactly what this is,” James Simmons, Recreation Superintendent for Wicomico County Recreation, Parks, and Tourism, said.

We are told parents had to register kids beforehand and the limit was 500 children, which they reached.

There was also a Great Glow Maze that families could enjoy inside of the Wicomico Civic Center that goes until 8 p.m.
