Wicomico Co. Schools announce update to Return to School plan
SALISBURY, Md. – On Tuesday, Wicomico County Public Schools Superintendent Dr. Donna Hanlin announced an update to the school system’s Return to School plan.
Prekindergarten will begin in-person instruction next week, October 19th, every day except Wednesday. The week of October 26th, Kindergarten students and some students receiving Special Education services will begin hybrid learning, with students divided into groups for in-school instruction two days a week and online learning the other three days. This will allow for recommended physical distancing in classrooms and on buses.
Grades 1 and 2 will return the week of November 9th. Grades 3 through 5 hybrid will begin November 30th, grades 6 through 8 will begin hybrid on January 4th, and high school students will begin hybrid learning on February 1st.
We’re told that several weeks before a grade level returns to the classroom on a hybrid schedule, parents and guardians will have the opportunity to choose for the student to participate in hybrid learning or continue with all virtual learning, and let the school know if a student doing hybrid learning would use school transportation.
Dr. Hanlin says they want parents to know what is planned with the awareness that the schedule is subject to change based on health metrics and other factors.
