Wicomico County hosting annual Turkey Trek 5k, with some changes

SALISBURY, Md. –  Get your running shoes ready, Wicomico County officials will be hosting their annual Turkey Trek 5k run this Thanksgiving.

The annual event brings out hundreds of runners every year, but this year will be a bit different because of the pandemic.

Of course running is an activity that naturally lends itself to social distancing, but organizers say they’ve also taken other steps to keep people safe. That includes making everyone register in advance, staggered start times and groups,  and no spectators.

Jamie Nichols, Program Director in the county, says they’re also trying something new this year for the runners.

“We’re also doing chip timing so we’re going to be able to start people in waves, so whenever they cross the starting line, their time will actually start and then stop when they cross the finish line,” Nichols said.
