Popular ‘Pole Family’ replaced after being hit by car
LEWES, Del. – A beloved attraction of sorts is back in action after being destroyed in a car accident.
They’re known as The Pole Family, and it’s a hit among drivers traveling along Route 9 through the Lewes area.
Joshua Stevenson, who lives in the area, said he used to pass the display every day and when it was destroyed he knew he had to replace it. He created new characters, Morticia and Gomez Addams, and Stevenson says Wednesday Adams is nearly complete and will be added soon.
Stevenson says he wanted to put the new display up to lift people’s spirits and to bring some positivity to the area.
“I’m sort of crafty, and I had a little bit of extra time in the evenings, so I just got to work on it, I just felt it had to be replaced because it was a lot of fun and I didn’t know if anyone else was going to do it, so I just thought, I’ll just do it,” he said.
Stevenson says when his wife posted the new display on Facebook, somebody commented saying the original family who created the Pole Family actually moved to New Jersey. Now, Stevenson says he hopes the entire community gets involved and feels free to change or decorate the pole family as long as it’s all in good fun.
