Poetry and Pride series to celebrate National LGBTQIA+ History Month starting Wednesday

Salisbury’s Poet Laureate is starting a new series in honor of LGBTQIA+ History Month.

A little over a year ago when she became the poet laureate Nancy Mitchell started something called Poets on the Plaza.

This is where everyday people read their poetry on the downtown Plaza in Salisbury.

Since the pandemic started, Nancy has moved these poetry readings online and during the month of October Nancy is putting a focus on the LGBTQIA community.

The series is called Poetry and Pride.

Every Wednesday at 7 p.m. on Zoom people can hear from a pair of poets  sharing their real life experiences.

Mitchell says her goal is to bring a sense of togetherness during this time- and give people a new perspective on the LGBTQIA plus community.

“Right now we are in such a bad place in our country because we are so divided,” Nancy Mitchell, SBY Poet Laureate. “It’s an opportunity for a perspective in terms of changing your heart and you know changing your stereotypical opinion.”

This event is being hosted with Salisbury PFLAG and the city of Salisbury.
