One dead, another injured following single vehicle crash in Accomack Co.

ACCOMACK CO., Va. – Virginia State Police say an early morning accident claimed the life of one in Accomack County.

We’re told the crash happened at around 1 a.m., on Chincoteague Road, east of Mosquito Creek Bridge. Preliminary investigation has revealed that a 2011 Ford F350 was traveling eastbound on Chincoteague Road when the driver ran off the roadway and hit the guardrail, causing the vehicle to roll over and land in the marsh, partially ejecting the driver.

Police say the driver, identified as 32-year-old Justin Richard Myers of Fayetteville, Pennsylvania, died upon impact.

While investigating the accident, troopers found evidence indicating there was a passenger involved, but could not locate the passenger. With the assistance of Chincoteague Police, the passenger, identified as 25-year-old Marshall Shaffer, was located and found to be suffering from non-life threatening injuries.

Further investigation revealed that both the driver and passenger were intoxicated at the time of the crash.
