Northrop Grumman’s Cygnus spacecraft & Antares rocket successfully launched at Wallops Island
WALLOPS ISLAND, Va. — And we have liftoff! NASA’s Wallops Flight Facility successfully launched Northrop Grumman’s Antares Rocket & Cygnus spacecraft Friday night.
We’re told the liftoff took place at around 9:16 p.m. The launch was originally scheduled to take place on Tuesday, September 29th, but was postponed due to weather. A second launch was then scheduled for Thursday, October 1st, but was scrubbed due to an issue with a piece of ground support equipment.
This rocket is loaded with nearly 8,000 pounds of research, crew supplies, and hardware, headed for the International Space Station.
Northrop Grumman’s Cygnus cargo spacecraft is scheduled to arrive at the ISS on Monday, October 5th.
