Inaugural 4Troy Foundation Blood Drive happening this weekend

GREENWOOD, Del. – The inaugural 4Troy Foundation Blood Drive is being held this Saturday, October 31, in Sussex County.

The Blood Bank of Delmarva and the 4Troy Foundation are hosting the drive to honor Troy Haynes. Haynes, who died last year, was a two-time state championship winning quarterback at Woodbridge High School in Greenwood, Delaware. His family, community members and the blood bank are hoping this event serves as a way to honor his life and legacy while also encouraging people to donate blood during a time when the blood bank’s inventory is low.

“Anytime we can partner with the community and raise awareness about the constant need for blood is a good thing because it’s never going to go away and you can’t manufacture this outside the human body and COVID-19 has just made things worse in terms of our ability to collect the lifesaving blood,” says Tony Prado with the Blood Bank of Delmarva.

Organizers hope to fill 70 appointments this Saturday and say they are about halfway right now. They encourage appointments but are not required.

The blood drive is scheduled for 9 AM to 2 PM at the VFW in Greenwood at 301 Mill Street.

To make an appointment you can click here and use sponsor code 4TF, or call 1-888-8-BLOOD-8.
