Hunt Military Communities gives back to families and food banks during week long food drive
DELAWARE- The largest military housing owner in the country, Hunt Military Communities, is giving back to their military families and communities in a different way this year.
We are told that Hunt Helping Hands is an annual initiative HMC hosts where they hold a one day service project event where their different military communities come together.
But, this year they could not do that because of COVID-19.
So, instead different military communities, like Eagle Heights in Dover, put on a one week long food drive.
Employees from HMC would put bags on every door knob of their military members homes, as well as their own community door knobs if they wished.
Then families could fill up the bags with food, HMC would collect them after a week, and then they take the bags to local food banks.
“There’s been so much food insecurity not only in military families, but in communities,” Lynette Hegeman, National Marketing Director, said. “I think this is just a great project that doesn’t put people at risk, but really gives people something that they need.”
We are told this initiative started Oct. 15 and for most states they ended the drive Wednesday, some are still going on.
We are told this is happening at every Hunt Military base- and they serve about 42 communities around the country and Hawaii.
They said that one of the food banks that will be getting food donated to them is the Foodbank of Delaware.
