Harrington man helps spread kindness in Delaware with ‘You Are Awesome’ sign
FELTON, Del. – If you ever find yourself driving through Kent County, Delaware you just might be lucky enough to catch Bill Walton on the side of the road holding up a unique sign.
Bill Walton from Harrington says he wants to help people feel good. That’s why he stops at various locations to tell others that they’re awesome.
“He’s definitely a local hero,” said Jeff Bellon, a Kent County resident.
“I mean who else is going to spend hours a day telling you that you’re awesome?”
Walton says there’s a lot of negativity going on in the world. That’s why he spends hours outside dancing with his sign to help others get through it.
“I think that breaks through a lot of the negativity and the ugliness that we’re dealing with right now and the fear and all that kind of stuff,” said Walton.
People who spoke to 47ABC say this small act of kindness wasn’t something they expected.
“He turns around, and it’s like, wait a minute, completely unexpected,” said Bellon, “He’s smiling, he’s waving, he’s pointing.”
Walton tells 47ABC his actions help him cope with anxiety and depression.
“Those things I say not as my identity, but just because I want to get them out there and have people realize that it’s okay to have these things and to have to try to deal with these things,” said Walton.
Ultimately, Walton says he just wants to spread positivity by reminding others that they’re loved and that they matter.
“You are loved, you are important, you matter, and the world wouldn’t be the same place without you,” said Walton.
Walton says that if you happen to see him outside let him know by writing to him on his Facebook page called You Are Awesome – Delaware.
