Greensboro Elementary School closes after staff test positive for COVID-10

GREENSBORO, Md. – After having multiple staff members test positive for the coronavirus, Greensboro Elementary School has decided to close its doors, for now. Officials say so far a total of eight staff have tested positive for the virus over the weekend and that the school will now shut down for two weeks. Superintendent for Caroline County Public Schools tells 47 ABC that for now students will continue instruction with their teachers online, and smart spots have been given to students who don’t have WiFi at home.
“We’re still in the process of doing contact tracing but with a knowledge base of having cases then we determined that it was the best interest of safety to go ahead and close the building for two weeks. It’s a very difficult decision to make, very complicated and it takes an enormous amount of folks on staff being able to come together,” said Superintendent, Dr. Patricia Saelens.
In an email sent to families Monday, Principal Dawn Swann wrote, “The safety and health of our students and staff is our highest priority, and we will continue to do everything we can to ensure the safest environment possible.”
