Free movie night at Fairmount Academy

WESTOVER, Md. – Families can soon enjoy a free movie night under the stars with a little bit of history added in as well.

Members of the Fairmount Historical Association are hosting a free movie under the stars night on October 10th, where they’ll be playing “Jacob Have I Loved,” which was actually filmed in and around the Fairmount Academy.

The night will be free, but organizers are welcoming and encouraging donations so that they can continue their work on fixing up and renovating the old academy.

Tracy Pollitt, the Vice President of the Association, says they’ve been operating mostly on donations lately and so events like this are important to get the public involved.

“They are so important, we have been getting by for the last several months just with donations,” she said.

The movie will start at 7 p.m., but guests are welcome to come at 6 p.m. to tour the academy and see the work that has already been done. The rain date for the event is October 17th.

You will need to bring your own chair or blanket, and organizers say seating will be social distanced. People who attend will also get free pop corn and a drink.
