UPDATE: DSP investigating a fatal crash that left one dead Saturday in Bridgeville

10/26 UPDATE: Police have identified the victim in this crash as 19-year-old Leon Mann Jr. of Bridgeville.

The crash continues to remain under investigation.

BRIDGEVILLE, Del.- Delaware State Police is investigating a crash that happened early Saturday morning that left one person dead.

DSP said around 1 a.m. a 2016 Ford Escape was driving fast northbound on Coverdale Rd. We are told because the car was going fast, it began to turn counterclockwise, sliding into the opposite travel lane.

Police said the driver overcorrected causing the car to slide sideways off the road.

Police said the driver’s side of the car hit a utility pole when it slide off the road.

We are told the driver of the car was unrestrained and sustained blunt force injuries.

Police said the driver was transported to TidalHealth Nanticoke where the operator was pronounced dead.

During the investigation, Coverdale Rd. was closed for 3 hours to allow the utility pole to be replaced.

The crash continues to remain under investigation.
