Car parade to raise awareness for breast cancer in Ocean City

OCEAN CITY, Md. – In a few weeks, dozens of cars will be rolling down the Ocean City Boardwalk in an effort to raise awareness about breast cancer.

Typically, the American Cancer Society hosts a walk on the boardwalk where thousands of survivors, loved ones and supporters come to stroll the boardwalk.

This year, in an effort to keep people socially distanced, the walk has turned into a car parade. Cars will be decorated in pink to show support. Volunteers with the parade tell us they’re just hoping to bring more attention to breast cancer, especially during the pandemic when other health concerns can fall to the wayside.

“We don’t want people to think, ‘oh I can’t go get my screening now, I should just skip this until covid goes away, there are no insurance of when covid is going to go away​,'” Dawn Hodge, one volunteer, said.

The parade kicks off Saturday, October 24 at 9 a.m. at the inlet. If you want to take part in the parade, you do need to register.
