Caesar Rodney and Sussex Academy tie in defensive battle to open the season
GEORGETOWN, Del. After 90 minutes of scoreless play, the Caesar Rodney Riders and the Sussex Academy Seahawks tie 0-0 to open up their seasons. Both teams start the season at 0-0-1.
The Riders, coming off a state title game appearance last season, dominated time of possession in the first half. CR getting four shots on goal in the first quarter and kept up the offensive attack in the second. Andrew Dawson had multiple shots but was just unable to get them in the net. The Seahawks got a very productive first half from keeper Cole White. The senior came up with big save after big save to keep it tied at zero headed into halftime.
In the second half, Sussex’s offense began to come to life. A few shots from Michael Daniello and Ryan Burke to keep the defense on their toes but still unable to get past CR keeper Zander Omans to break the 0-0 tie. After 80 scoreless minutes, the game would head to overtime.
In overtime, both teams were able to get shots off but the two keepers were like brick walls, keeping every shot out of the goal. After a scoreless overtime period, we would head to a second ten minute period and again, no-one was able to hit the back of the net as Sussex Academy and Caesar Rodney tie at 0-0 to both start theirs seasons at 0-0-1.
The Seahawks will look to get their first win of the season when they travel to Dagsboro to take on Indain River on Thursday. The Riders will travel to Lewes also looking for their first win when they play Cape Thursday.
