BREAKING: Former James M. Bennett Vice Principal found not guilty on all charges
SALISBURY, Md. – A Wicomico County jury has found former James M. Bennett Vice Principal Kimandi Binns not guilty on charges of failing to report abuse/neglect and conspiracy to not report abuse/neglect.
The charges stemmed from the case involving the former guidance counselor from the school, Allen Mitchell. Mitchell pleaded guilty last October to sex abuse of a minor after he sent nude photos of himself to a minor and had inappropriate Snapchat conversations with several students.
On Wednesday, the state argued that Binns knew what Mitchell was doing and failed to report that to law enforcement. The state said Binns and former Principal Amy Eskridge agreed that Mitchell was possibly “coming on to a younger student when he said he wanted to see what was underneath her clothing.” But Binns’ lawyer said he did nothing wrong and that he had no reason to hide anything.
Eskridge had her trial postponed back in February. Mitchell was sentenced to 41 years in prison with all but 20 of those suspended.
