911 services in Kent and Sussex counties resume after third disruption

DELAWARE – For the third time, people in Kent and Sussex counties got a message saying there was a disruption preventing them from being able to call 911 for several hours.

State officials say an alert was sent out to people around 11 AM. According to the Kent County Department of Public Safety Director Chief Colin Faulkner, AT&T lines were down preventing some residents from calling or even texting to 911.

He says he still isn’t sure yet what caused the outage.

“Our 911 centers are extremely busy,” said Faulkner.

“We get about 100,000 calls between 911 and administrative calls 100,000 calls a year, so we know, if we’re down 10 or 20 minutes, chances are very high that someone is going to be underserved,” said Faulkner.

Delaware State Police sent out a message at around 2 PM saying that 911 Services have been fully restored for AT&T subscribers. If you have an emergency, you can now call or text 911.
